Director – Private Debt | Institutional Investor Platform

The Platform

Our client is a leading European institutional investor with a rapidly expanding private-markets programme and a dedicated mandate to compound capital through credit-led strategies. The platform deploys across the full liquidity spectrum—primary fund commitments, strategic secondaries and high-conviction co-investments—underpinned by a disciplined portfolio-construction framework, rigorous risk governance and a proprietary ESG playbook. Long-dated capital, a fully discretionary mandate and best-in-class data-infrastructure position the team to act with speed, certainty of execution and transparency.

The Opportunity

A senior-level seat within the Private Credit group. The Director will originate, underwrite and execute transactions across the corporate, real-estate and infrastructure credit continuum, while shaping portfolio strategy and mentoring junior talent. The mandate combines deal leadership with platform-building influence and requires close partnership with structuring, legal, ESG and distribution verticals.

Key Responsibilities

Thematic Origination & Market Mapping

  • Build and maintain a forward-looking heat-map of private-credit adjacencies (direct lending, opportunistic real-estate debt, infra junior debt & hybrids).
  • Cultivate proprietary GP and arranger relationships to secure first-look deal flow and anchor-investor economics.

Fund & GP Underwriting

  • Lead full-cycle due diligence on primary and secondary fund commitments, including deep dives on strategy edge, track-record attribution, portfolio construction, alignment mechanics and ESG-alpha levers.
  • Architect robust investment cases, synthesize quantitative and qualitative findings into IC-ready materials and drive conviction through governance.

Co-Investment Deal Execution

  • Source and screen asset-level and sleeve-level co-investments alongside tier-one sponsors; structure deal terms to optimise risk-adjusted yield, cash-flow seniority and downside protection.
  • Oversee modelling, credit memo production, legal negotiation and closing; quarterback inter-departmental workstreams (tax, ESG, valuation).

Active Portfolio Stewardship

  • Design KPI dashboards to track performance, covenant compliance, ESG milestones and early-warning indicators; chair quarterly review sessions with GPs and external directors.
  • Drive value-creation initiatives—amend-&-extend, NAV-financing, recycling mechanics—across the legacy book.

Capital Formation & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for internal asset-allocation committees and external limited partners; craft thought-leadership on macro credit themes and portfolio tilts.
  • Contribute to fundraising decks, DDQs and bespoke client reporting, translating complex credit exposures into concise, investor-grade narratives.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience: Minimum 8 years in private credit, structured finance or alternatives investing, with end-to-end accountability for fund and co-investment transactions.
  • Technical Prowess: Expert‐level financial modelling, cash-flow waterfall and downside-case structuring skills; fluency across corporate, real-estate and infrastructure debt instruments.
  • Execution Excellence: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-border deal teams, negotiate legal documentation and close within compressed timelines.
  • Strategic Acumen: Portfolio-construction mindset with sensitivity to correlation, duration, liquidity buckets and ESG impact; comfort presenting to C-suite and investment boards.
  • Languages: Fluent English required; additional European languages advantageous.
  • Education & Credentials: Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering or a related discipline; CFA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
  • Personal Style: Ownership-driven, intellectually curious and solutions-oriented, with the gravitas to influence senior stakeholders and the humility to coach junior colleagues.

This is a high-impact, P&L-critical role for a credit professional seeking full lifecycle ownership—origination through exit—within a well-capitalised, sustainability-anchored platform committed to compounding long-term value.
