About the Role
We are seeking a Renewable Energy Project Developer to join our growing team and lead the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects (solar PV, wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems) across Africa. The role spans the full project development lifecycle—from site identification and permitting to financial close—working in close coordination with local stakeholders, government authorities, technical partners, and internal cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Origination & Site Development
- Identify, assess, and secure suitable sites for solar, wind, and hybrid (solar + BESS) projects
- Conduct initial technical and commercial feasibility studies (e.g. irradiation/wind yield, grid access, land constraints)
- Engage with landowners and local authorities to secure land rights, permits and licenses
- Participate in call-for tenders
2. Stakeholder Engagement
- Interface with local authorities, landowners, utilities, and communities
- Manage relationships with government agencies and regulatory bodies
3. Project Management
- Drive the permitting and licensing process
- Coordinate internal teams (legal, finance, contacting) and external consultants
- Maintain and report on project timeline and development budget
- Ensure regulatory compliance and risk mitigation
4. Technical & Financial Analysis
- Support energy yield studies, interconnection studies, and preliminary designs
- Support financial modeling and investment memos
- Prepare internal documentation and decision materials
5. Contracting & Financing
- Assist with EPC selection, procurement strategy, and pre-construction planning as needed
- Assist with the setup of the insurance program
- Support the project finance processes
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Business, or related field
- 3–7+ years of experience in renewable energy project development, ideally in emerging markets
- Proven track record of developing utility-scale solar, wind, or BESS projects, ideally in Africa
- Strong understanding of permitting, land acquisition, grid connection, and E&S (environmental and social) processes
- Knowledge of energy regulation and power sector frameworks in African countries
- Familiarity with PPA structures, IPP models, and project finance principles

- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with cross-cultural sensitivity
- Ability to work independently
- Fluent in French and English
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites and across Africa
