Internship: Mechatronics

🚀 Company Mission:

Centeon is an early-stage, deeptech company pioneering the future of low-carbon ammonia. Our mission is to develop a scalable, cost-competitive way to create local, resilient, electric (and emissions-free) ammonia supply to address market demand across key sectors like agriculture, chemicals and energy. The company has unlocked several breakthroughs since incorporating 2 years ago and aim to bring their first commercial solution to market in 2027.

🧭 About the Role

Centeon is on the hunt for a hands-on, hardware-obsessed Mechatronics Intern to join our deeptech R&D team. You’ll support our lead engineer in designing and building all the hardware and the physical infrastructure behind our biotech and electrochemical systems — think reactor prototypes, sensor instrumentation, and automation systems. We are specifically looking for a candidate with strengths in instrumentation and process automation.

This is not a CAD-only internship. You’ll build and fabricate real systems and work with your hands. You’ll troubleshoot real systems, source-order-test real components, integrate sensors, and run tests with hardware systems in an actual lab environment with many engineering constraints. If you're a self-described builder, hacker, tinkerer, or over-all hardware nerd — we want you.

đŸ› ïž Your Mission

  • Support in the mechanical and electrical design of experimental setups and reactor hardware.
  • Help build customized bioreactors and electrochemical systems, from tubing to enclosures to automation.
  • Troubleshoot and hack existing hardware systems, adapting off-the-shelf components to fit experimental needs.
  • Work with sensors, control systems, and microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi) to collect real-time data.
  • Collaborate with Lead hardware engineer and the science team to integrate your systems into actual lab workflows.
  • Document designs, build logs, and debugging steps.

✅ Ideal Profile

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Engineering Science, or similar.
  • Portfolio or personal projects showing hands-on hardware experience (not just simulations or design).
  • You’ve built robots, lab gear, sensors, 3D printers, automation setups — and you can prove it.
  • Experience in real-world integration (systems that had to work under pressure).
  • Startup experience is a plus; big-company experience is okay if you actually built things.
  • Bonus: Experience with sensor instrumentation, automation, embedded systems, or IoT hardware.
  • Fluent in English and Python. French not required.

🌍 Our Offer:

This is a high-growth role in a fast-evolving start-up at the cutting edge of clean tech. You’ll join a small founding team (10-11 people initially, growing rapidly) and get to shape both the tech and the company from the ground up. We offer:

  • Competitive salary & benefits
  • Mentorship from founders and domain experts
  • Full visibility into company-building: from engineering to strategy to fundraising
  • Location: Paris, France — a hub for climate tech with a high quality of life

If you’re excited about designing tech that could redefine entire industries and want to join a mission-led team from the start, we’d love to hear from you.

⚡ Apply Now:

Reach out with your CV and a 3-5 slide hardware portfolio of real systems that you have build (and that you are proud of).

🚀 About the Company and the Founders:

Centeon is an early-stage green chemicals company based in Paris, France. Since incorporating two years ago, they have demonstrated key technical milestones that unlocked the support of select early-stage investors. The two founders (Jerome and Daniel) bring different and complementary experience, expertise and leadership by execution to their young team as they sprint to meet their technical and commercial targets. Daniel (Mexican) is a repeat biotech founder and has a track record of innovating in areas as diverse as cancer diagnostics to plant-based bioproduction. Jerome (Filipino) brings a track record in technology commercialization across many areas of hardware, in managing multi-million funded R&D projects and in coordinating partnerships with government and commercial stakeholders.

We believe that a diverse group of minds is key in building fast-moving, innovative and resilient organizations. We strongly encourage women and people of colour to apply. Studies have shown that under-represented candidates are less likely to apply for a role unless they feel they meet every single qualification. We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and mission-driven team. If you’re excited about the position but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with what you read here, we encourage you to apply anyway!
