Laser engineer (H/F)

Senior Quantum Systems Engineer Paris, France This role sits within a high performing engineering team to accelerate the development of next-generation quantum processing units (QPUs). This role will focus on integrating photonic and cryogenic RF technologies to enhance fault-tolerant quantum systems, bridging quantum and classical computing architectures. Reporting to senior leadership, you will play a pivotal role in productizing quantum hardware, de-risking fabrication processes, and expanding our intellectual property portfolio. Key Responsibilities Design and deploy FPGA-based microwave pulse-generation and state-measurement platforms optimized for millikelvin environments, enabling low-latency classical-quantum feedback. Develop continuous-wave wavelength-division multiplexing (CW-WDM) photonic links for chip-to-chip and cryo-to-room-temperature data paths, aligning electrical, optical, and control software layers. Lead the productization of photonic-quantum systems by implementing mature RF-photonics co-design methods and hardened silicon flows (e.g., 22 nm mixed-signal processes). De-risk upcoming tape-outs by leveraging established foundry relationships and optimizing fabrication workflows. Integrate network-on-chip (NoC) architectures and AI/ML co-processors to complement quantum networks, supporting hybrid quantum-classical systems. Drive the intellectual property pipeline by authoring patents and monetizing architectural innovations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (quantum physicists, microwave engineers, software developers) to advance QPU scalability and performance. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous learning. What We’re Looking For ~ Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Quantum Engineering, or a related field. ~5+ years of experience in quantum computing, high-performance computing (HPC), or photonic systems, with a focus on fault-tolerant architectures or superconducting qubits. ~ Proven expertise in FPGA-based microwave control systems for cryogenic environments. ~ Hands-on experience with CW-WDM photonic design rules, PIC-control firmware, or RF-photonics co-design. ~ Familiarity with mixed-signal semiconductor processes (e.g., 22 nm) and foundry operations. ~ Track record of authoring patents or driving IP development in technical domains. ~ Preferred Skills: ~ Experience integrating quantum systems with classical HPC stacks, including NoC or AI/ML co-processors. ~ Established relationships with global foundry partners or a demonstrated ability to navigate semiconductor fabrication ecosystems. ~ Knowledge of quantum error correction or superconducting qubit technologies (e.g., cat qubits). ~ Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams or implementing organizational playbooks. ~ Personal Attributes: ~ Innovative problem-solver with a passion for pushing the boundaries of quantum technology. ~ Collaborative team player comfortable in a multicultural, fast-paced startup environment. ~ Proactive communicator able to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences. ~ Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
