AVP Credit Management - France - IB/CCB Credit


Job Purpose:

  • AVP Credit analyses data of new-to-bank clients as well as existing counterparties in the IB & CCB portfolio, to assess their creditworthiness and determine the credit risk FAB incurs in not recovering the funds borrowed.
  • The level of risk thus determined serves as the basis for decision-making to grant loan/credit line to the customer.
  • Analysis of the client's creditworthiness are set out in a credit package presented to the relevant Paris Credit Committee for support and Head of Credit CCB/IB Europe and Americas.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform credit assessment on proposed transaction for Corporates, States owned enterprise and SMEs, by conducting detailed due diligence including financial analysis, based on financial statements, management accounts, market, customer research/assessment reports, documentation contractual, due diligence report, the latest client market projections, etc.…
  • Identify, measure, mitigate and report credit risk in any potential transaction to adequately safeguard FAB’s financial position and mitigate potential losses.
  • Recommend an appropriate internal risk rating for clients, based on qualitative and quantitative client data.
  • Be responsible for the complete production and management of credit submissions being handled (including the quality and completeness of the client's credit packs, including data and credit analysis) and in due time of credit package, in compliance with FAB’s policies and procedures, including the compilation, examination and circulation of all relevant supporting documents, verification of compliance with the conditions for granting loan/credit line, such as approved conditions, monitoring of covenants, etc.
  • Review and update customer’s data in the core banking systems of FAB Group.
  • Assist in the preparation and participate in the FAB France Committees.
  • Participate in the implementation of remediation plans following internal and external audit missions.
  • Participate in the promotion of risk culture within FAB France in order to increase awareness and understanding of prudent risk management practices.
  • Contribute in the review and drafting of Policies, Procedure and SOPs.
  • Contribute to FAB internal control system.
  • Actively participate in regulatory watch to ensure that local and applicable regulatory guidelines are followed when deploying policies, procedures and analyzes.
  • Promote and/or develop credit management system as well as related internal procedures to integrate internal and regulatory changes as well as those of the Group's procedures.
  • Participate in the operational transformation of the Bank by contributing to the continuous improvement of functional systems, processes and practices taking into account international standards and changes in the business environment that require proactive behavior.
  • If necessary, assist line managers on ad hoc projects.


Job Context:

The role is to support the development of Paris Credit team in maintaining and growing the corporate credit portfolio in the context of future regulatory changes for the branch, according to established Group credit and business strategies.


Portfolio Monitoring & Account Management:

  • Monitor obligor transactions, repayment drawdowns, collateral status and obligor’s financial performance. Follow up with RM/Customer for promptly obtaining the latest available financial information.
  • Monitor approval conditions & financial covenants; and report the compliance & findings.
  • Archive internal ratings of all relationships within your allocated portfolio of clients.
  • Monitor (often daily) reports of Past Due / Excesses / etc. Follow up and timely resolve irregularities with the assistance of RMs.
  • Weekly monitoring of share price movement of listed companies and report any negative findings.
  • Attend Client DD/calls at the time of reviews/ new proposals (min of 1 per annum). Submit call reports. Monitor early warning signals and highlight such obligors to be moved to Early-Alert or Watch-list as deemed fit.
  • Manage problem credits closely and recommend appropriate strategies and remedial action plans.
  • Identify defaulters & recommend immediate remedial solutions to maintain a quality credit portfolio.
  • Ensure asset classification and provisioning is in line with statutory and policy guidelines.
  • Overall portfolio monitoring and reporting for accounts pertaining and thus acting as a second line of defense along with GRM (first line of defense).
  • Ensure that policy limits are not exceeded and ensure that requisite approvals are obtained when such limits are exceeded.
  • Provide information to Risk/Finance for forecasting of NPLs (or other credit items) as required
  • Contribute towards the preparation and/or maintenance of (local and/or HO) internal reporting (such as event of default, excesses, restructured/rescheduled) and/or monitoring reports as required.


Record keeping/ Reporting/ Misc:

  • Maintain credit files for each customer (within your allocated portfolio) by assembling Credit approvals, CA packages, financial statements, Call/Credit Due Diligence reports and other Customer information.
  • Ensuring obligor’s static credit data (in particular rating, staging, limit and collateral) validity in IFRS9 reporting and banking systems (such as Murex and GLCMS).
  • Contributes towards quarterly portfolio monitoring reports or as required on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Respond to queries raised by auditors on credit appraisal, credit quality and portfolio.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements, as applicable.


Others: Perform ad-hoc duties as and when assigned and/or supported by the Manager.


Frameworks, Boundaries, & Decision-Making Authority:

The function is performed within the framework of the regulations in force, the policies of FAB France and FAB Group and taking into account the organizational structure of FAB France and the Group.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • At least 5 years of relevant credit experience – including good experience of the relevant France and international market with respect to large corporates and trade finance
  • Strong corporate financing credit (incl. a good understanding of the underlying businesses, sectoral view, macroeconomics), analytical, communication, interpersonal and presentational skills
  • Strong skill to draft credit packages in English, including underlying text and conclusion.
  • Verbal communication and presentation skills (French and English).
  • Desirable: Master’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance or relevant discipline
  • An open minded, collaborative and ethical approach, willingness to learn on the job new credit skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions, self-driven and a good team player
  • Attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of relevant product documentation and Compliance requirements
  • Good knowledge of the EBA/EU Regulation, supervisors’ expectations and best market practices.
  • Ideally used to work in an international environment.
