Senior Video Coding Expert (HLS)

Job Context:

The job is based in France (Rennes, Paris), Finland (Tampere) or Netherlands (Den Haag), working in a hybrid office mode. Depending on a candidate profile and preference, the job may require travels to standardization meetings.

As part of the Industry Standards and Research department, our team consists of multimedia technology experts focused on bringing innovative solutions to our products (mobile phones, EVs, TVs, Mi Box, video cameras, etc. ) through cutting-edge research and international standardization (e.g. MPEG, JVET, 3GPP, etc.) covering a wide spectrum of multimedia systems aspects.

Job Mission:

As member of the team, you will work together with world-class experts on video coding and media delivery. Your mission will be to participate to innovation, design, implementation and optimization of new video bitstream features (e.g. high-level syntax) to meet the needs of modern video applications such as video streaming, video capture, video calls, etc... You will author contributions for video coding and delivery standardisation. Your mission will also include support to our product teams to ensure that the latest video technologies can be offered to our users via excellent products with competitive prices.

Profile:

• You are holder of an Engineering, MS or PhD degree in Video Coding, Computer Science, Mathematics, Signal Processing or equivalent.

• You have a minimum experience of 2 years in video coding and/or video system standardization (ISO/MPEG, ITU/VCEG, JVET).

• You have a strong expertise in video codecs such as H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, H.266/VVC, etc.

• You have an excellent knowledge on common streaming, file formats and media protocols, such as MPEG-2 transport stream, ISO Base Media File Format (e.g. MP4), the Real-time Transport Protocol, MPEG-DASH and CMAF.

• You have a solid technical and programming skills (C++, python, etc.).

• You are rigorous, creative, pragmatic and results oriented.

• You have a good level of spoken and written English.

• Ideally, you are passionate about video technologies and have strong motivation for bringing video innovations into products.

Job description :

In this role your core responsibilities will be:

1. Research and implement new approaches for video bitstream features.

2. Contribute to standards on video coding and delivery (e.g. ISO/MPEG, JVET), and applicative standards where video expertise is needed (e.g. 3GPP SA4).

3. Work with our IPR teams on protecting our ideas and products.

4. Collaborate with our video products teams so as to bring our innovations to life.

5. Demonstrate Xiaomi's innovation through scientific publications, technical conferences or other communication events.

6. Help building a technology roadmap based on expert analysis and present to leaders and executives.
