BESS Operations Director

About the Role

Take charge of delivering utility-scale BESS projects from concept through commissioning. As EPC Project Director, you will lead the end-to-end execution of complex renewable energy infrastructure, ensuring operational excellence, safety, and performance across engineering, procurement, and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead full-cycle EPC delivery for large-scale BESS projects across multiple sites.
• Oversee engineering, procurement, construction, HSE, quality, and commissioning activities.
• Collaborate with development, finance, and commercial teams during project planning and bidding.
• Ensure all project execution complies with regulatory, contractual, and technical standards.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation plans.
• Drive process improvements, track KPIs, and implement lessons learned.
• Act as senior interface with clients, OEMs, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
• Build and manage high-performance delivery teams across concurrent projects.
• Report on project performance and strategy to senior leadership.
• Stay updated on emerging BESS tech and renewable energy innovations.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading EPC delivery of utility-scale renewable projects (BESS, Solar PV, etc.).
• Strong understanding of EPC contracts (FIDIC, NEC) and energy infrastructure standards.
• Deep technical knowledge of energy storage, grid interconnection, and electrical engineering.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Commercial acumen and contract management experience.
• Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe.

Desirable:

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent.
• PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification.
• Experience with DNOs/TSOs and regulated utility environments.
